The Real Life Transition Program incorporates a sophisticated therapeutic milieu with a well-refined token economy. Students learn the value of money management,
budgeting, work ethic, problem solving, and independence, which cultivates self-worth and confidence.
As students participate in various daily activities, he or she has the opportunity to earn wages commensurate to their academic performance. Without using tokens or money, they track their earnings and deductions with an actual checkbook register.
With the wages earned, students pay for various goods and services such as certain supplies, a weekly rent, optional benefits & activities, personal items, etc. The token economy is so effective; it even allows students to earn an elective academic credit in personal finance.
Benefits, activities, athletics, and service projects are designed to be a source of motivation for students and are an important part of the therapeutic milieu.
As a sanctioned 1A High School athletics program, DRA students can participate in competitive athletics including Football, Baseball, Volleyball, Golf, Wrestling, Basketball, Softball, Track and Field, Dance, and Cheer. Students get to participate and excel in high school athletics in a way perhaps not possible at their home schools.
Clubs and Extracurricular Activities include: 4H, Small Animal Care, Media, Journalism, Guitar, Choir, Speech, Service Projects, Debate, Drama, Sewing, Scrapbooking, Chess, Fishing & Hiking, Weightlifting, Soccer, Football, Baseball, Basketball, and more.
Parents often ask, “How often will my child be getting therapy?”
The answer is, “Always.”
Every part of our program is designed to be therapeutic. This facilitates the change process and empowers students on a journey of emotional self-discovery, growth, and learning while under the supervision of a caring, licensed therapist.
Our therapists work with students full time, every day, they eat meals with the students and interact with them in unique ways such as throwing the football, fishing, playing basketball, working out, playing chess, or even having a therapy session outside sitting by the pond or under a tree.
This allows them to develop close professional friendships resulting in a more trusting and caring relationship with the students.
All credits earned at DRA will transfer to high schools, colleges, and universities throughout the United States and beyond. Students completing graduation requirements receive an accredited high school diploma and many of our students go on to be accepted at colleges and universities from local community colleges to the Ivy League.
Students and families participating in the Real Life Transition Program are offered a simple and powerful guarantee:
If a student completes the Real Life Transition Program and after returning home, he or she reverts back into previous destructive patterns or habits, parents may readmit the student at no cost for 30 days, a month at a time until the student turns 18.
In offering this guarantee for 12 years, only 5% of our students have ever returned to DRA on this guarantee.
